Introduction
This Vermicelli Halwa made with jaggery is a healthier and delicious dessert option. Jaggery is rich in iron, which helps prevent anaemia, and also contains minerals like magnesium, potassium, and calcium. It also has antioxidants that boost the immune system and detoxify the liver. The fortified vermicelli provides energy and many other vital nutrients and lastly nuts and desi ghee offer healthy fats and protein. This halwa can be considered a nutritious treat. Just make sure to have it in moderation to keep your diet balanced.
What You Need
- Roasted vermicelli - 2 cups
- Grated jaggery - ¾ cups
- Dry fruits of your choice - Cashews, Raisins, Pistachios, Almonds, etc.
- Water - 2 glasses
- Cardamoms - 2
- Desi ghee - 1 tablespoon
How to Make It
01
In the beginning, put jaggery in a steel vessel and add 2 glasses of water to it. Stir it with a spoon so that jaggery dissolves in the water. Then place it on the burner and turn it on. Keep stirring the jaggery water on low flame, until you see a small boil in it. Turn off the burner.
02
If you do not have roasted vermicelli, then just dry roast it in a pan until it turns light pink
03
Add 1 tablespoon of desi ghee in moderately heated frying pan and add dry fruits such cashews, raisins, and almonds. Stir them for 30-40 seconds.
04
Then add roasted vermicelli to it and stir for around a minute.
05
Then add jaggery water and cardamom powder to it.
06
Cover the frying pan and cook it for 10-12 minutes. Just keep checking and stirring after every 4-5 minutes.
07
After it absorbs all the water, cook it without covering it for a minute or two. And your tasty vermicelli halwa is ready!
Pro Tips
Use roasted vermicelli fortified with vitamins and minerals. I use this product from [Bambino] (https://www.amazon.in/Bambino-Roasted-Vermicelli-Sewaiyan-Each/dp/B0CY537X81?tag=priyankadatar-21).
You may add more desi ghee if you like your halwa to be more non-sticky and non-lumpy.
